Social Media vs Booking Platforms vs Websites: Which Works Best for Beauty Entrepreneurs?
Why Do You Need A Website, Social Media, or Booking Site?
That may seem like a dumb question, but how else are you going to reach the masses?
As I stated in my blog post about salon suites or a traditional salon, depending on where you are in your career, all options can be beneficial. Some gurus will say websites are outdated and tiktok is all you need.
All three options are ways to reach people from across the world.
Word of mouth works only as long as people are talking. The beauty of Having a website, social media, or booking site, it never stops talking about you!
1)Social Media
There are so many platforms to choose from when using social media. It is sometimes overwhelming. the more popular ones are facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and Youtube.
It is a great (free) way to market your business. you can showcase your work using pictures and video, as well as give people a little insight into you and your business with a mini bio.
Regardless of where you are in your business journey, there is a platform out there for everyone.
Sometimes things can get a little daunting. trying to keep up with best practices, shadow banning, beat the social media algorithm, and not GETTING CAUGHT GOING down a gossip rabbit hole can leave you less focused on sharing about your business.
2)Booking Site
Now i love me a good booking site. In my career, I have used three (so far). I started with Styleseat, ventured over to Glossgenius when I became a suite salon owner, and now i’m using acuity scheduling.
Booking sites give clients the option to do everything on their own. So the independent, introverted, tech-savvy clients love using a booking site to schedule their appointments.
it also works in favor OF the introverted and busy stylist WHO PREFERs not TALKING ON THE PHONE but SERVING clients instead.
like social media, having a booking site can get overwhelming. sometimes you get caught up in adding too much, sometimes not enough. And let’s not forget how everyone’s page looks exactly the same. So now a potential client can’t remember if they were on your page or mine, because they did not bookmark the link.
3)Website
You may be thinking, “this lady IS crazy! I don’t need a website,” and to some degree, you are correct. Eventually, you should get one.
it’s a combination of having a booking site and A social media page. You can show your work, post videos, and have clients book their appointments.
but my favorite about having a website is THAT your clients know they are in the right place. Your WEBSITE can be customized to fit your business: colors, logo, music, etc. There is less of a chance of confusion of whether you’re Braids by brittany or Britney’s Braids.
Oh, just in case you didn’t know, it is also less likely of your site shutting down, since you do own it (pay for it). Let us not forget how tik tok’s 24-HOUR SHUTDOWN had people in a chokehold.
There are pros and cons of all three, but If you are going back and forth about which route to take, it’s time to get a mentor.
